Employment Policy

EU Urges Slovenia to Create More Jobs

Brussels, Feb. 20

A European Commission report on employment policy notes that even though the 63.6-percent employment rate in Slovenia is actually comparable to that of the EU (63.8 percent), quite a few challenges are still ahead. Highlighted as the main task is the creation of new jobs, especially in services. Three key steps are listed as incentives for moving the workforce into the service sector: better harmonisation of job supply and demand, greater professional mobility and better transparency and flexibility of regular jobs. The Commission suggests that Slovenia take advantage of the latest changes in labour legislation and take some measures for the elimination of administrative obstacles and establishing a more flexible labour market. The Commission also believes that in order to create new jobs, an analysis must be made of the connections between the tax system and social advantages.
