35th Chess Olympiad Declared Open

Bled, Oct. 25

The largest chess event ever, the 35th Chess Olympiad, was officially opened at the lakeside resort of Bled. Until November 10, over 100 women's and 140 men's national teams will be holding chess duels in 14 rounds. Among the over 2,200 participants and escorts, the Bled Olympiad has also attracted the two current world champions, China's Xie Jun and Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov. Moreover, the greatest chess players of all times, Judith Polgar of Hungary and Gari Kasparov of Russia are also attending. The 35th Olympiad was declared officially open by Slovenian President Milan Kučan.
